Today, I turn forty. I'm a bit humbled, confused and disoriented by that number.
Thirties, you were very, very good to me. A job I really liked, a beautiful wedding, a happy (hard-earned happy) marriage, a house, a dog, one beautiful boy, another beautiful boy, becoming a mama, good health. That's a list full of breath-taking good fortune: I am so thankful for all the blessings and gifts my thirties held.
And now I, still feeling very close to that uniformed high-school girl who hung out in the school parking lot eating cake with friends, am forty. I am looking forward to seeing what this decade will hold. It has already begun with love: many handmade colorful cards, singing, kisses and some new wheels for me to glide on into my forties.
