July in Portland this year has been marked by wild fluctuations of temperature. During the very hot days, Ezra and Reuben ate alot of popsicles. We have been trying different kinds - homemade and store-bought. Andrea's strawberry "dreamsicles" got big thumbs-ups from all of us except Ezra, who does not like coconut and can really taste it even when it's buried under lots of other flavors. We've also been getting these healthy, dairy-free push-ups that the boys are liking alot.
Another big highlight of the hot days has been the slip 'n slide. God, what an awesome toy the slip 'n slide is. I remember loving it as a kid, and within one minute of attaching the hose and turning on the water, E & R were having the time of their lives. Ezra was sliding on his belly, his knees and his back - sometimes combining all three in one trip down the yellow strip. Ruby can't quite get the slide part, but he's quite adept at the slip part; and the drinking the water spraying out from the holes part.
4th of July was one of the cooler days, but we still had a really fun day. We had friends over for a barbecue and the kids had lots of fun doing low-key fireworks (sparklers, snaps and roses). Our neighbor down the street had a pinata for all the kids and Ezra and Reuben each ate their first "Tootsie Roll".
We've been spending lots of time just hanging out in the yard and on the street: talking to neighbors, doing sidewalk chalk, making paper airplanes, watering the garden and trying to catch butterflies.
Speaking of butterflies, I want to make some of these with the boys this week.
What's going on in your July?
